Carrier Safety & Liability

The hirer must read all safety, use and care instructions provided prior to using the carrier.  The carrier must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions provided at the time of hire.  All carriers are extremely safe when used properly, however misuse can cause injury to yourself or to your child.

It is the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that those who use the carrier while it is in their possession are using it correctly and that children are safe at all times.  Cuddle Me Up cannot be held responsible for any accident that results in injury or death whilst the carrier is in your care.  If you are unsure about anything you read in the instructions, or have any concerns, please contact us.

Rental Costs and Duration

The minimum hire period is one week and you can hire for as long as you like. You can extend your hire period at any time by contacting us through email or our facebook page. Our hire fees are as follows:

  • One week – £5.00
  • Hire extensions – £5.00 per week

The minimum cost of any hire is £6.00.  Single weeks are only available as an extension to a four week hire.

The hirer must provide details of a valid debit/credit card to act as security against the carrier.  If the hirer cannot provide card details, a £50 refundable cash deposit will be required.

Payment can be made in cash or by PayPal.  If paying by PayPal, a 50p fee will apply to each payment.

Hiring a Carrier

All hires are authorised at a sling meet.  To hire a carrier the hirer must provide their full name, postal address, a confirmed email address and telephone number.  A copy of these terms and conditions will be sent by email for the hirer’s information.  In removing a carrier from the library, you agree to abide fully by these terms and conditions at all times.

Your personal details will be kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and will only be used to contact you in relation to your library loan.  Card details will be destroyed immediately a hire is returned and any cash deposits will be refunded.

Condition of the Carrier

All carriers are checked before lending to ensure that they are in good condition and working order.  All carriers will be checked on their return before any deposit is refunded or any card details destroyed.

It is the hirer’s responsibility to check the condition of the carrier before every use.  Ensure you check all buckles, hems and seams ensuring that there are no tears, breaks, cracks or holes.  If any damage is discovered, you must stop using the carrier immediately and contact us.

We cannot guarantee that there are no marks or hairs on the carriers we lend out.  Carriers are spot-cleaned and only laundered if absolutely necessary as freshly washed carriers will not be as soft or flexible as those that are not.  If you would prefer to use a freshly laundered carrier please request this before you borrow.  We cannot guarantee that there are no animal hairs on our carriers, but we ask that all carriers are kept away from pets to minimise this possibility.  If you are very allergic to animal hairs, please contact us to request that the carrier is laundered before you borrow it to help reduce any potential reaction.

Under no circumstances is the hirer permitted to smoke whilst using the carrier, or in its immediate vicinity.  The hirer agrees to keep the carrier away from other environmental hazards.

Returning the Carrier

It is entirely the hirer’s responsibility to monitor the carrier return date and ensure that it is returned to a sling library open session or to Byways, Whitemill Lane, Stone, Staffordshire ST15 0EG on or before that date.  The hirer will be informed of the return date at the point of hire.

The carrier may be returned by post at your own cost and risk.  The hirer must return the carrier by special delivery and retain proof of postage.  The carrier should be packaged, along with instructions and any accessories, in two bags with the postal address and a return address on both layers.

If you are unable to return your carrier by the agreed date due to library staff illness or holidays, we will extend your loan period for free and agree a new returns date with you.

The carrier is not considered returned until it has been confirmed with you by email or telephone.  At sessions this will usually be done immediately.  For postal or other returns we aim to do this within 48 hours.  If you do not receive confirmation of return please get in touch as soon as possible or further fees may fall due.

Any hirer that fails to return the carrier within 8 weeks of its expected return will be liable for the full RRP of the carrier plus all outstanding rental fees for the period.  Where the hirer has provided card details, the transaction will be invoiced for and processed.  Where the hirer has provided a cash deposit, this will be retained and the hirer will be invoiced for the remaining cost plus all outstanding fees.

Failure to return the carrier will be treated as theft.

Carriers Past Due

All carriers that fall past due will be automatically renewed on the weekly hire rate of £3.00 per week or part thereof until they are renewed on another tariff or returned as detailed above.  This can be reduced or waived at our discretion.

Included in the rental cost is ongoing support via phone and email, and access to drop-in library sessions at various sessions.

Carriers Damaged Lost or Missing

Carriers lost or missing during the hire period or any renewal or automatic extension period as detailed above will be paid for by the hirer at full RRP for the carier lost plus any outstanding rental fees up to the date the hirer notifies Cuddle Me Up of the loss.

Carriers that are damaged during the hire period or any renewal or automatic extension period will be assessed on an individual basis, but Cuddle Me Up reserve the right to charge either the full RRP of the carrier OR cost of repair to a suitable standard accepted for rehire. This includes but is not limited to covering the costs of replacement industry standard buckles, lost hoods or accessories, or sending the carrier for repair by the manufacturer (including covering postage costs incurred by the carrier repair).

The definition of damage includes abnormal stains or marks above what might be expected from normal wear and tear (for example, posset and mud are expected, bleach or biro are not).

The assessment of damage and whether the carrier is suitable for repair or needs replacement is always carried out by a representative of Cuddle Me Up and the hirer will accept this judgement.


All loans and services are subject to availability and our discretion. Carrier availabilityand reservations cannot be guaranteed.
